Shape of Dreams v1.4 Patch Notes: Full 1.4.0 List
Quick Answer

Patch 1.4.0, The Starless Path, landed 2026-09-17 with the Traveler Cetus, the Way of Stars constellation, a new ending, eight Essences and a full balance block. Every value below is transcribed from that note.

This page is a full transcription of the Steam news post “Patch 1.4.0 note” for AppID 2444750, published 2026-09-17 by Lizard Smoothie and NEOWIZ, alongside its companion announcement “The Starless Path v1.4 Update” on the same day. Nothing here is paraphrased from a third-party summary: each value was copied from the official body text, and the sections that the developers did not change are marked as such. Where the note announces a feature without publishing numbers, this page leaves the number out instead of estimating one.

The practical use of a patch note is the diff it forces on your build. So each block below is followed by the one line that matters at the character select screen, and every figure is repeated from the note rather than recalculated.

New Content In Version 1.4

  • New Traveler, Cetus. A ranged warrior who wields the Cold inside his own body: he accumulates Cold to unleash burst damage, creates massive glaciers and icy zones to control enemy movement, and grants shields to himself and allies. The note states he is unlocked by digging through Piles of Snow, with no additional prerequisite attached.
  • The Way of Stars. The existing Traveler Mastery system is expanded into a deeper progression system by that name. Episodes connect like a constellation as you play each Traveler, revealing hidden stories and rewarding illustrations, limited Emotes and unique Souvenirs.
  • New ending, The Starless Path. Progressing through The Way of Stars unlocks the route, which adds a new adventure and an even more powerful final boss.
  • Fallen Star and Old Memories. Six Common Identity Memories were added. Progress through the game, uncover the secrets of the Rapids, and replace your Traveler’s Identity Memory.
  • Heroic Boss Hard Patterns. Starting from Ominous Dream difficulty, some World Bosses use more challenging and powerful abilities. The companion announcement extends that wording to Nightmare difficulty and Limbo.
  • New Memories. Annoying Banner, Hero’s Return and Small Molten Core, plus three Shell Memories: Death Mark, Deception and Scar of the Wind. None of the six has a published effect line.
  • New Flexible Stars and reworks. Lacerta 3, Mist 2, Yubar 2, Vesper 1, Aurena 1, Bismuth 1, Nachia 1 and Shell 7.
  • New Essences. Control, Crucible, Slipperiness, Liberty, Lightness, Hedgehog, Supersymmetry and Culinary. No stat lines are printed for any of the eight.
  • Customisation and collectibles. New Costumes including Frost Hunter Lacerta and three Yubar outfits, a new Common Souvenir called Mini Cetus, 11 new Emotes, and six new Artifacts obtained only through special methods.
  • Starving Beast Boss. A Unique Memory and a Unique Banner were added for this boss.

Other changes

A Dynamic Resolution option was added, overall performance and stability were improved, and in co-op games enemies now spawn faster as the number of players increases, while the maximum number of monsters alive at once has a fixed cap from the second loop onward rather than increasing indefinitely. Skills returned after defeating the Starving Beast now have a minimum level equal to their level when destroyed plus 3. Console platforms do not support mods, so a PC player with mods enabled can only queue with other players who also have cross-play disabled, and the note says a more flexible solution is being worked on.

The Fixes Worth Reading Twice

Most of the bug-fix block is routine, but four entries change documented behaviour rather than restoring it. Essence of Shatter now works correctly when conversion effects such as Essence of the Abyss, Essence of Inversion and Inversion Sigil turn damage into Light damage, which means a conversion build previously behaved differently from its tooltip. The Soulmate Memory was not treated as a Light-damage Memory, which blocked the Twinkle Twinkle achievement. Lizard’s Blessing no longer amplifies damage taken from non-enemy sources such as the Shrine of Dismantling. And total damage and duration of damage-over-time Memories could inconsistently move under low-framerate conditions, which is the honest reason several older community measurements disagree with each other.

How This Page Is Maintained

The transcription source is the news post body fetched through Steam’s official news endpoint on 2026-09-19, and the same text is stored in this site’s research pack so every number on this page can be diffed against it. When 1.5 lands, the diff table above is what gets extended, and the balance lines that a later patch overwrites will be moved rather than quietly corrected.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Shape of Dreams update to 1.4?

The Steam news post titled Patch 1.4.0 note was published on 2026-09-17, together with the companion announcement The Starless Path v1.4 Update on the same day.

What is the biggest change in the 1.4.0 patch notes?

Structurally, the Way of Stars, because it replaces the Traveler Mastery system, gates a new ending route and hands out new Flexible Stars: Shell 7, Lacerta 3, Mist 2, Yubar 2, and one each to Vesper, Aurena, Bismuth and Nachia.

Did v1.4 nerf anything?

Yes, the note prints its removals outright. Permafrost Shields no longer stack, the Soulmate Little Baam lost Armor and 25% of its Max Health, Shell's Annihilation Stance lost its maximum Dodge charge and Memory Haste bonuses, and Frenzied Blade Dance cuts Sword Wave damage by 60% and range by 80%.
